Our Story
Welcome to Recovery Counselor's Toolkit, your all-in-one resource for recovery professionals. Built for counselors, by a counselor. We offer curriculum, compliance, and connection — all in one place. Discover our journey and commitment to supporting those who give their all to help others.

The heart behind the toolkit
Recovery Counselor’s Toolkit was born out of years of firsthand experience working as an addiction counselor, balancing compassion for clients with the daily pressures of compliance, documentation, and burnout. I saw too many talented counselors spending their evenings creating worksheets, rewriting notes, or scrambling to meet 245G standards instead of connecting with clients.

Our mission
I created this Toolkit to change that — to give counselors a place where everything they need is organized, compliant, trauma-informed, and ready to use. It’s a resource built by a counselor, for counselors — to make recovery work sustainable, ethical, and human again. We strive to make recovery work sustainable, compliant, and heart-centered.

Who we serve
Our resources are designed for frontline counselors, clinical supervisors, counselors-in-training, educators, peer specialists, and recovery advocates. Whether you're managing a team, training staff, or seeking guidance, our Toolkit supports sustainable, quality-driven recovery care. We aim to support, not exploit, and empower, not overwhelm.

About Me
I’m Kelly Capelle, LADC, a Minnesota-based addiction counselor and the founder of the Recovery Counselor’s Toolkit. I created this platform to support the next generation of substance use disorder professionals with resources that are practical, accessible, and grounded in real clinical experience.
My work integrates evidence-based practices, cultural responsiveness, and hands-on tools that simplify group facilitation, documentation, and treatment planning across ASAM levels of care. With nine years in recovery myself, I bring authenticity, compassion, and a deep commitment to reducing stigma while empowering counselors to do their best work.
I believe that when we support the people who support others, the entire system becomes stronger—and clients receive the care they deserve.
"This reminds me why I fell in love with this work in the first place."
